Septic Tank Installation
We Offer & Install Septic Tanks For Every Purpose
Septic tanks are a popular choice for off mains properties that are not located near a local sewer network.
Septic tanks can be connected to a drainage field to a low treatment and to comply with regulations set out by the Environmental Agency. Septic tank discharges are no longer allowed to enter any water courses including ditches and therefore are normally updated with a sewage treatment plant if they can not meet the general binding rules.
West Country Drainage Services is always on hand if you need additional advice regarding Septic Tanks, Servicing or installations or further information or guidance about our services. Contact our team today and we can discuss your requirements.

Self-contained & Low Maintenance
Once installed, septic tanks operate autonomously without needing constant attention. They require periodic pumping (usually every 3-5 years depending on usage and size) to remove solids, but beyond that, their maintenance demands are minimal compared to more complex systems.
Cost-Effective for Rural Homes
For homes located in rural areas where connection to a centralised sewer system may be cost-prohibitive or unavailable, septic tanks provide a cost-effective solution for wastewater treatment and disposal.
Protects Public Health & Environment
Properly designed and maintained STPs help in reducing the release of pollutants into the environment. By treating the sewage, these plants reduce the risks of waterborne diseases, protect aquatic ecosystems, and ensure that groundwater and surface water sources remain uncontaminated.
How Do Septic Tanks Work?
Septic tanks work by separating waste water from a property into three layers sludge, effluent and
oils and greases. The sludge then settles to the bottom of the tank (this is why annual desludges are very important).
Effluent is the middle layer and the oils float to the surface which form a scum on top.
Bacetera then works its magic and begins to break the solids down in the sludge and scum layers that have formed. This partially treats the wastewater. As new waste water enters the tank the partially treated middle layer leaves the tank via the drainagefield and as it moves through the natural ground the remaining impurities are treated.
Why Would You Have A Septic Tank Over A Sewage Treatment Plant?
Some properties that already have a working and effective drainage field but where the septic tank has failed often favour installing a new septic tank as the cost is cheaper and the unit does not require electricity to operate.
Septic tanks often require periodic pumping annually to remove any sludge from the system and to comply with regulations. This is the only maintenance required for the system hence the popularity over sewage treatment plants.
